Opinion: Japan must apologize for sex crimes
Published on Daily Sundial September 24th, 2013 The clear sound of a Chinese wooden temple block echoed among the tall buildings of downtown Los Angeles. A Buddhist monk walked slowly, hitting the block rhythmically, reciting scripture for the deceased. A man holding a picture of an old woman followed the monk. Behind him, four men holding a flower-decorated coffin marched as people with a banner and signs followed. The banner read: “The Government of Japan Must Apologize to the Victims of Sexual Slavery. In Memory of Lee Yong-nyo (1926-2013).” The group marched for two blocks and stopped in front of a tall building where the Consulate-General of Japan is located on the 17th floor. Participants laid the coffin and the picture on the sidewalk and read eulogies for the deceased Yong-nyo Lee. CSUN student succeeds despite disabilities
Published on Daily Sundial November 26th, 2012 He raised his hand and his name was called, but he took a few seconds, his face close to the computer screen. There was a couple seconds of silence. Besides him, a transcriber typed everything said in the class, including the professor words and those of other students. In front of him, his screen received what was said in big text for him to read. He read what the professor was asking, raised his hand, and read that his name was called: “Yes, Erick.” Erick Gallegos is a deaf and blind student, majoring in English, at CSUN. He was born through a traumatic delivery, which left him stuck for hours, damaging his hearing. At the age of 9, just before turning 10 years old, he lost his vision, the reason for which the doctor could not diagnose. He has tunnel eyes, meaning he can only see objects right front of him, within 3 feet, and has difficulty seeing in the dark. Gallegos started at CSUN as a business administration major. However, the support the department could give him was limited. He had a hard time participating in his classes due to his not being able to see the board, which resulted in his not being able to keep up with his classes. |
Opinion: Immigration reform not fast enough
Published on Daily Sundial December 3rd, 2013 “Hey, I’m going to Vegas tomorrow,” Matt said. “Lucky,” I answered. “I’m stuck in school doing my midterms and you’re going off to party. Good life.” “No girl,” Matt said. “I have to get my license there.” Matt (an alias used for this story) is an undocumented immigrant who lived in the U.S. for about 20 years. His California driver’s license expired a long time ago and due to the issue with his status, he could not get a license in the state anymore. Now, his Arizona license expired and his next state was Nevada. “I thought California passed a law or action or something that gives immigrants licenses,” I said. “That begins next year. I can’t just drive without a license for one whole year,” Matt answered.
Choi's Cinema Talk: "What do I desire?" from movie The Terror Live Published on Christian Today August 17,
Published on theBoice November 2, 콘돔 착용 의무화 찬성 “Yes on B”와 반대 “No on B”가 카운티 곳곳에 빌보드로 개제되어있고 집회도 여기 저기서 열린다.
Choi's Cinema Talk: "Leaving Fabricated Language Behind" from movie Nell Published on Christian Today August 17, |
